Wow, what a weekend! I attended a wonderful workshop at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Springfield VA. The workshop was "Praying in Color" by Sybil MacBeth.
There were over 165 people ( including men) attending the praying in color workshop taught by Sybil herself! I loved her humor, and she did lots of interactive exercises with us. It really helped me to see that when I pray most of the time my mind wanders ( does that happen to you???)! However, praying in color is an "active, meditative, playful prayer practice. It is both process and product. The process involves a re-entry into the childlike world of coloring and improvising. The project is a colorful design or drawing that is a visual reminder of the time spent in prayer."
I found that I could actually concentrate even more on the person or situation I was praying for when my hands were moving! Connie Dellinger ( the Sr. Pastors wife and Women's ministry leader) from POP gave a additional workshop in the afternoon and it was a good extension of what the book says.
Do you know about Zentangles? Well, Connie taught us about Tangle Prayers- an adaptation of the popular art form of Zentangle- which simply means strokes and patterns.
"The calming nature of drawing the patterns allows a focused quiet time that can be used as prayer time that connects to both the visual and kinesthetic part of how we learn, remember and recall things in our memories."
Here are my two attempts, keep watching for more Tangle Prayers.
I wanted to thank Connie for the experience of allowing me to display my faith art and to sell some of the items. It was a huge success and I feel like an artist now! God asked me to go down a path, and I resisted and tried to do it my way, but as I have been experiencing my freedom to live the way HE wants me to, it has become easier to go where He wants me to ! It is a wonderful faith filled journey and I am so excited He is growing my faith art ministry.
