Well, I have so much to share today.
Last weekend at my home studio we had a Guest artist Connie Denninger who led 8 women in a special workshop titled " Living Life as Prayer". It was a spirit time and great opportunity to look at the ways we can actually make every moment of our lives prayer to God.
Connie demonstrated lots of techniques to use in our prayer time, so keep a record of time spent in prayer, who we are praying for and responses to prayer. It was such a good workshop, and I am working on putting it together as an online class so stay tuned.

My new friend Paula Parkison was able to attend from FL, and it was wonderful to spend 4 days crafting with her. She makes wonderful Scripture Snippets and we created a Etsy site for her on Friday. Here is the link for her Etsy site and for her blog Remember the Promise.

So long since I posted my testimony and so much to share!
My friend Connie has been such a gift and inspiration to me. God brought us together last year, when I was published in a online Scrapbooking site. She was on a trip to Chicago at the time when one of her art friends said check out this woman online. She lives near you. Connie emailed me and we talked on the phone while she was waiting in the airport to come back to Northern VA. We connected via our faith and then through art. She has given so much support, love and spiritual mentoring to me over the past year. She named me as her resident artist for her church Prince of Peace. I have attended many of her Keep the Faith events and have been blessed by the women of her church who are interested in faithart.
One of Connies' gifts is mentoring and teaching- basically sharing her faith walk. She has kept a blessing journal for over 6 months ( from the book 1000 gifts) and for the past 2 years has kept a journal of her faith walk. She practices praying in color ( Praying in Color ), which is where I got the inspiration to begin my praying in color journal in Jan of this year. ( see pictures and posts here).

God has given me this platform ( my blog) to spread His word and His creativity! Another new friend from this blog is Paula Parkison. She found me last month and we have been corresponding and I am so happy that she is coming from FL to the studio in 2 weeks for the Living Life as Prayer workshop. Paula's story is fascinating, please check her blog and read her faith journey! She is a widow and a former pastors wife ( as is Connie). She has such talent in expressing faith in beautiful scripture snippets and other craft items.
Today we received a huge box from Paula and I wept when I saw the gifts she sent us. She custom made a name frame for each of my daughters and how did she know their color schemes??? She is amazing and the detail and love is so evident! God has blessed me with her friendship and our love of God drew us together!
I shared my one little word for 2012 in Jan here. I set some goals for myself and have been "steadfast" in doing them. One of my goals was my weight. I have been struggling for the past few years with weight. I did not grow up with weight issues, weight became an issue for me when I became hypothyroid about 12 years ago. I have lost 22 lbs on my "simple diet" plan . God has given me the strength to lean on Him instead of food, to exercise daily and taken away my cravings for food! This is a new habit of health I am trying to live.
I started keeping my 1000 gifts book and praying in color journal and have kept up with it consistently- being steadfast!
God is watching over my children and blessing them and I will be receiving a wonderful gift of a 2nd grandchild in October.
Life is good because of my relationship with Jesus and being steadfast in my habits.
My prayer for my friends and family in April is found in John 17:15,17
".... protect them from the evil one. Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth."
I just signed up and I wanted to let you all know about Tim's first online class, Creative Chemistry 101. It runs March 19th - April 2nd. I'm sure his class is going to be packed full of great techniques and surprises. By reading the class description (you can find it HERE) I'm super excited to get experimenting with Tim. The class is only $35 for 2 weeks of great info and lifelong access to the info. Another class that I enjoyed from OnlineCardClasses.com this past year was Inspiration Showcase with Jennifer McQuire which I see is still offered but is now an independent study course.
If you haven't taken any online classes I highly recomend this one!

Pattie Ann is a fine artist, writer, and teacher with a focus in worship and prophetic art. Pattie offers seminars and workshops in which she guides participants in experiencing the visual language of the Spirit. Her experiential workshops often focus on wholeness and healing.
Pattie is an accomplished teacher, having taught art classes in various mediums and has led community art classes for children and the elderly . She has been involved in several community, national and international art shows, special gift collaborations, and mural projects for community and ministries. She has had several solo shows in galleries, community centers, and churches, Her art is collected nationally and internationally. Hale is writing a book titled: A Sacred Revolution – The Power of God in the Arts, which will be released in the near future.

Arise & Shine
Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD rises upon you.
Through an exploration of Isaiah 60, workshop participants will take a multi-sensory journey through the depths of the mind, soul and spirit, progressively identifying and moving out of shadowed areas and further into the light of God and His Radiance. This workshop will be a visual, auditory, and tactile exploration of the glory of God. As we engage the scriptures through music, movement, and the mixed-media project, participants will symbolically and prophetically experience the transformation of moving out of darkness and into light. Though mixed-media techniques will be obtained, the focus is on the journey. “Out of the heart comes the art… so I want to help your heart shine,” says Pattie Ann Hale.
The cost of the workshop includes a birch panel, specific fabrics, select papers, and various other collage elements, which will make up the mixed-media project. All materials and tools, including paints, paintbrushes, markers, pencils, adhesives etc. will be provided. The participant does not need to provide anything for this workshop but is welcome to bring additional personal collage materials and supplies if so desired.

I have been blessed by the Father with His gift of creativity. My prayers have been answered - prayers for finding my style, and what God wanted me to create to bring him glory and honor and turn the hearts of others to Him. Today I am going to share our first faithart canvas class with you! Monday night we had 8 women brave enough to allow themselves to create a faithart canvas using a 10x10 stretched canvas, gesso, stencils and Color Wash sprays!
Watching Wednesday's is all about watching God work in people to speak to them, to use their hands and hearts to tell His story through paint, paper, color and texture. I am blessed to have a studio in my home and to have lots of people interested in exploring their faith through art!
I created bible verse skins ( another technique I will show you some time) with one of my favorite verses...
trust in the LORD with all your heart Proverbs 3:5.
Each woman was given the choice of stencil, color and design, along with her bible verse skin. Here is a picture of my faithart canvas that was the inspiration.
I love teaching women how to ignore the censor in their head- you know the one who says- "you can't do this, you are not an artist, you can't create anything....". This class was about relaxing, trying and listening to God.
I learned a lot of new techniques in watching and guiding the women.

Dana had a verse in her mind about singing to the Lord, and chose not to use Proverbs. I love her tree, use of color and composition!
Connie's, simple, elegant soft color and composition were the perfect background for the verse.
Melissa chose a bouquet of flowers, soft colors and used the verse around the flowers. She hand painted some of the flowers and added beautiful depth.
Dani is becoming quite the artist! She used the tree stencil and I love the way she painted, and created a niche for the heart and verse! It looks like you have to go through the forest to find your heart and trust Him!
Anne's was a soft composition that perfectly suited the way she emphasized the words. I love the soft colors too!
Julie loves bold colors and I love her bold composition!
Lee used the bird stencil and then hand painted it. I love how she created this free feeling in her faithart!
Terry used a new stencil and I love how she emphasized the heart in the verse.
When you look at them all lined up you get a sense of the beauty of God and his blessings.

Mini Albums are a great way to start scrapbooking and a good gift. They are small, so you can create one quickly. They keep you focused- there is a beginning and an end. Great way to use up left over papers, and photos!

The woman described in Proverbs 31 seems to be perfect! She works hard for her family, keeps up with the house, makes sure that the entire family is fed, is respected by others and her husband, and the list goes on... It can be very overwhelming to try to attain her status- which leaves many of us feeling as though we do not amount to God's standards. If you are anything like me, you too have felt as though there is always something that is just not right in your womanhood. Maybe you are not sweet enough, or neat enough, or submissive enough, or clean enough... Whatever label you do not amount to it can leave you feeling overwhelmed and discouraged.
God did not put this part of Scripture in the Bible so that we would draw away from Him filled with shame due to our incapacity to do what He expects of us. On the contrary, I have become every day more certain that He inspired these words because He wants to show us His Grace. The truth is: we all fall short of the Glory of God and there is not even one that is good amongst us. He KNEW this when He made us and when He decided to save us- and in this He loved us.
The proverbs 31 woman is meant to be a reminder of how much we need Christ! God desires that we would be women like the one portrayed there, and He knew that these areas would be our weaknesses, so He gave us this map of virtues so that we would not conform to the world but allow Him to transform us. The Bible teaches that in our weaknesses He is strong! My prayer is that you would allow the Lord to show you those areas where you indeed fail so that in turn you would learn to be mesmerized by His great strength. You will be doing things you never imagined when you fully rely on Him. In Him you already are the Proverbs 31 Woman you so desire to be. May He show you that truth today as He heals you from all insecurities.
My project is "a woman who fears the Lord". I was captured by the 30th verse in Proverbs 31.
"Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised."
Fearing the Lord sounds so bad! What does it actually mean? I looked up fear in my Bible dictionary. fear: " a feeling of reverence, awe, and respect or an unpleasant emotion caused by a sense of danger. Fear may be directed toward God or man, and it may be either be healthy or harmful."
I guess that I only understood the harmful fear, not the healthy fear. So, when I fear the Lord I am offering reverence, respect and awe of Him. I feel the awe when I raise my hands to Him and offer him my heart. So my tag shows a woman in awe of the God who created her and loves her.
Technique & Supplies:
manilla tag- #8 (3 1/8 x 6 1/8")
Sizzix embossing plate "Rays"- emboss half the tag
Distress Inks: spiced marmalade, dried marigold, rusty hings, vintage photo
Glimmer mist: sugar maple
Emboss 1/2 of the tag, add script writing beneath the embossing, use a corner stamp in the same color ink. Using distress ink (rusty hinge) I added the woman with hands lifted in praise as a stencil. ( this is fron a picture I found in a Discipleship journal that I copied and reduced and then cut out). Direct to paper technique for adding the color to the rays. Edged the tag with vintage photo ink, distressed the edges, type from my computer with the verse. Added lace that I sprayed with glimmer mist to match the color scheme and a string of 1/2 pearls ( from a fabric store). I added some gold Pearl Ex on top of the orange rays to give it shimmer. You could use glimmer mist on top as well.

I follow Julie's blog and was excited for her last week when she shared her new DVD. I immediately purchased it and played with her for about 2 hours! I highly recomend this video, if you haven't started art journaling, and want to know how to make backgrounds, use gesso, stencils, etc!

we created new designs for the prayer planks this past week, they are beautiful and are a great gift. I use cedar planks ( I buy a stack at Home Depot), cut them, sand them and then add the prayers (I create them in PSE and print), embellishments and paint beeswax over the entire plank to seal it.
