It has been fun to rewind and return to our wonderful devotions this past few weeks. Thanks Mary Brack, Bernice Hopper and others who gave us the opportunity to go deeper in our walk with God in 2015! Stay tuned for great opportunities in 2016 as we move to DNA and God's I am Statements!
September was the start of school, cooler temperatures and the feeling of starting something new ( learning). His Kingdom Come theme was Promises.
Did you know there are more than 3500 verses in the Bible that contain a promise! Wow, makes me feel so good to know that God loves me - he tells me over and over!
Here is my rewind version of this theme and then you can see the original posts and the techniques.
I love the song "standing on the promises" and decided to use that as my focal point.
Standing on the promises of Christ my King,
Through eternal ages let his praises ring;
Glory in the highest, I will shout and sing,
Standing on the promises of God.
Standing on the promises of God my Savior;
I'm standing on the promises of God.
Standing on the promises I cannot fall,
Listening every moment to the Spirit's call,
Resting in my Savior as my all in all,
Standing on the promises of God.
If I stay in God's presence and in His power, I can experience His promises for my life.
My promise technique for September was using the Dylusions Ranger journal block . I followed Dyan's technique video and used that to wave my pages and cut them. I cut 3 pages, since this was a 4 week devotion.
I also wanted to create a horizontal bar and put the word promises across each page for teach week, as well as collage each page. I used gesso as my collage base instead of glue this time and like the effect it gives- a softened tone to the collage.
I used the journal block to create my horizontal bar on each page with a marker, and edged each page with marker too.
Lots of spray inks:
Dylusions - Pure Sunshine, Squeezed orange and funky fuchsia
Lindy's Stamp Gang- Flat Fabios- Mango Mania, Hibiscus Rose, Pink Ladies Pink, Tears on my pillow Tangerine
I love the soft effects of the Lind's stamp gang sprays, but they don't react with water the way the Dylusions do. So I like to mix using both for the effect I want.
Once I got the color effect I wanted, I misted with Ranger Perfect Pearls Mists Sunflower sparkle, gives a great gold shimmer.
Stamped the word Promises, and colored the letters with Dylusions Funky Fuchsia and a paint brush. Doodled my notes.
The promise of forgiveness.
14 “For if you forgive others their sins, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive others, your Father will not forgive you your sins." Matthew 6:14-15
Forgiveness is not a feeling, it is a choice, a decision, I must forgive and I must choose forgiveness. If you don't forgive you are chained to the past, bound up in bitterness. Letting go of anger and hatred, means you can be free of the burden of bitterness!
Forgiveness is not easy, it is very hard. I want to talk about the hurt, ask why, and dwell on my pain. But that just means I am chained to the person who I perceive hurt me. When I let go of the bitterness and give it to God, I can experience His forgiveness and I am free!
Being free is much better than being chained.
Wisdom is "the ability to think and act using knowledge, experience, understanding, common sense and insight." Jesus tells us to ASK for wisdom.
"5 But if anyone is deficient in wisdom, he should ask God, who gives to all generously and without reprimand, and it will be given to him." James 1:5 NET
7 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened for you." Matthew 7:7 NET
Wisdom is something I desperately desire and seek. My personality is such that I like becoming an expert on a topic, being competent. So this verse is important to me, that I can't do it on my own strength, but only through God can I have wisdom.
God promises that He will never leave me nor forsake me. He will be with me always. So comforting and free! I am lightened that I am not alone, even when I cannot see or feel Him, he is with me. The greatest promise of God is waiting for me in Heaven, I will have an eternal crown waiting for me.
I love the song by Kim Walker Smith "Holy Spirit You are welcome here". I say those words as a prayer from my heart to God's, the holy spirit is always welcome in my heart!
