On Saturday February 28th, His Kingdom Come is launching its first collaborative class prepared by the 5 members of the Foundation Team. Faithart101 has been developed for beginners to Faith Journaling. The 5 classes cover basic journaling information, how to translate scripture into art, the basics of drawing people, using scrapbooking techniques and mixed media techniques.
Each of the 5 classes can be purchased individually or all 5 can be bought together with a discount. The individual classes are $8 each but you can buy all 5 together for $35. PayPal will sort out the currency for you if you live outside the United States. Once you have purchased your classes and have been added to the class site you can work through the classes at your own pace. You will have unlimited access to the classes you have purchased.
The Foundation Team consists of Bernice, Mary, Shonna, Merri and Diane and each day this week you can find out more about each of us on our personal blogs. We will also tell you about the class we are teaching as part of Faithart101.

My class is Mixed Media Layering, which will show you how to use pictures, dictionary pages, music lyrics, paint, spray inks, stamps, wordart and lots of other objects to create multiple layers in your faithart journal . Layers of faithart symbolize God’s word in mixed media projects and bible journaling. Learn how layering can make you look like a great artist and bring Glory to God in your faithart!
Let me introduce myself:
I am a mixed media self-taught faithartist living in beautiful Palm Bay FL ( central Fl near Melbourne). I lived for over 40 years in Northern VA and moved to FL July 2013, when God told me to let go of most of what I was holding onto in my life- my dream home, my large yard, 22 year history with my church, my church family and my adult children living in VA. He brought me to FL where I have a beautiful small ranch home in Bayside Lakes a growing planned community. I have 6 children who live in VA and TX- Patrick & his wife Vivi, 2 grandsons Patrick and Dominic; Andrew & Tara; Zachary and my adopted daughters Vera 21, Natalya 19 and Deanna 16. I am a blessed mother and grandmother.
I was raised in the Methodist faith, and then like many others, walked away from God in my teens. When I became a mother, I wanted my family to be involved in a church, so we started to attend a church. I was born again in 1991 in TX at a huge Southern Baptist church and there my walk with Jesus began. He became my savior then and the Lord of my life almost 10 years later.
How does your faith impact your creativity?
I was always creative, from decorating my parent’s home as a teenager, to painting in my 20's, decorating my home, making window treatments, and pillows. I started scrapbooking and card making in 1999. Almost 12 years ago, I felt God leading me to only create for His glory and Honor, so all of my work is what I call translating the secular world into faithart. Everything I read or see as art projects, I am constantly thinking how I can make that reflect my faith, and Jesus' words. I love to teach others how to create art that reflects their faith!
What is your preferred medium of creativity?
I love mixed media canvas, faithart journaling and bible journaling (even though mine is not in my bible yet, it is in countless art journals). I love bright colors and turquoise is my favorite color now. (I decorated my home in aqua, orange, yellow, lime green and white!) I love taking a blank canvas and praying and asking God to guide my hands and heart as I use lots of different tools to create a depiction of a topic, or verse that he has laid on my heart. This example of "Tree of Knowledge" hangs in my living room and brings me joy with the colors and peace with the image!
What is your favourite technique?
Stencils and inks are my go to supplies and techniques. I use ink sprays, ink pads, ink dabbers, etc. I love to spray or add ink to my non-stick mat and pull, push and dab the ink onto tags, journal pages. I edge most of my work with ink pads. I love to use embossing paste with stencils and am now starting to use glue as a basis for my abstract prophetic canvases.
Who is your favourite person in the Bible and why?
I identify with the apostle Paul. His personal encounter with Jesus changed his life. He never lost his fierce intensity, but from then on it was channeled for the gospel. I am a passionate person, and try to focus my passions so I can be sensitive to God’s leading. I want to do what God directs me, although my strong personality wrestles with HIM a lot of the time. For the first 5 years after accepting Jesus as my savior I did what I wanted to do and my life spiraled downward. I just did not want to let go of -My anger - My will - My preoccupations - My favorite distractions- My priority list - My view of the world and My short sighted view of God.
What Bible verse do you regularly rely on?
"And we know that in all things,
God works for the good of those who love Him
who have been called according to His purpose."
A sense of peace has always accompanied my obeying His will even when I did not know how things were going to go. I have had to surrender my body, mind, soul, self-control and money throughout my Christian walk. The miracles I experienced have been confirmation that His ways always reveal a way for Him to get the glory and honor!
